    Exciting opportunities exists for the right individuals to join a progressive non-profit organization as a Support Worker in our Children and Youth Department. The position entails working in community setting (one to one) with individuals who are diagnosed with developmental delays, ADHD, FASD as well as Autism, OCD and challenging behaviors.

     

    The successful candidate would spend most of their time assisting the clients to work towards their goals, teaching life skills, community integration and social skills.

    You must possess knowledge of positive behavioral, visual and sensory support strategies, and report writing. Your responsibilities include maintaining boundaries, providing daily structure and consistently following the support plan outlined within a warm and supportive environment.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Knowledge and experience working with developmental, concurrent disorders, autism, mental health
    • Ability to create a meaningful routine
    • Knowledgeable of creating independence vs. creating dependence
    • Following health care/behavioural plans
    • Completing daily documentation on a Microsoft platform database on their own computer
    • Implementing personal protocols, schedules, and activities
    • Accompanying/transporting individuals to appointments and activities in the community
    • Must have experience working with high anxiety
    • Community Integration
    • Able to set firm boundaries
    • Some behavior management
    • Ability to encourage, motivate and involve client in community activities.
    • Access to computer and internet
    • Proven ability to develop rapport with adults in a variety of contexts.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with adults with behavioural, social, emotional and mental health/psychiatric issues
    • Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) with educational personnel, social workers and resource workers, service providers and partners
    • Able to self-start, make judgment calls, and create new models/programs as needed
    • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team environment
    • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision
    • Available for continuous training

    Qualifications

    The successful candidate must have or be ready to acquire:

    • Criminal Record Clearance, Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Child and Family Development
    • Valid BCDL class 5 and suitable driver's abstract
    • Car Insurance with 3rd party liability of $2 million
    • Valid First Aid and CPR level C certification
    • FoodSafe certification
    • MANDT Training will be offered in house
    • Food Safe Certificate
    • 3 References
