    Exciting opportunity exists for the right individual to join a progressive and fast growing non-profit organization as a Community Support Worker who is fluent in ASL (American Sign Language).

     

    The position entails working in a one to one setting or group setting with an individual who is hearing impaired, high functioning with ADHD at a Day Program located in Coquitlam.

     

    Strive Centre Footprints and Pinetree are programs which provide both community-based and home-based activities, including supports for adults with developmental disabilities. Individuals participate in social, recreational, vocational, and leisure activities within a supported environment. Program and activity schedules are created to reflect the needs, preferences, and goals of each individual.

     

    Current Position:

    Tuesday to Friday 10am to 5pm (28 hurs per week)

    Responsibilities

    • Fluent in ASL and/or ability to translate for people without hearing impairment
    • University degree or college diploma in a social science program or significant experience and training in a related field.
    • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team environment
    • Ability to receive supportive verbal feedback from team members
    • Adaptability and flexibility within the work environment
    • Computer literacy and access to the internet
    • Ability to encourage, motivate and involve client in community activities.
    • Proven ability to develop rapport with youth, and adults in a variety of contexts.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with youth and adults with behavioural, social, emotional and mental health/psychiatric issues
    • Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) with youth and their families, educational personnel, social workers and resource workers, service providers and partners
    • Able to self-start, make judgment calls, and create new models/programs as needed
    • Ability to act with integrity and trust, helps to build a healthy team environment, communicates clearly, fosters potential in others, and acts as a positive role model.
    • Ability to follow and implement Positive Behaviour plans
    • Some personal care may be involved
    • Ability to establish boundaries while maintaining positive rapport with both clients and staff
    • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision

    Qualifications

    Other Qualifications Include:

    - University degree or college diploma in a social science program and/or subsequent experience

    -Class 5 BC drivers’ license and reliable vehicle preferred

    -Clean Driver’s Abstract

    -Criminal record check clearance

    -Negative TB test clearance

    -First aid and CPR

    -Mandt Certificate

    Compensation: $20.07 hourly, plus benefits upon meeting eligibility requirements.
