    Strive Living Society is a non-profit registered charity which designs and delivers, community living services, tailored to each individual we support. Our teams work collaboratively with service recipients, families, and support networks to ensure flexible, responsive, and quality services.

     

    We are currently looking for casual Community Specialized Workers who are energetic and would like to make a difference in the life of a young man.

     

    Shifts available are as follows: 7:00 am-3:00 pm, 3:00 pm-11:00 pm, and 11:00 pm-7:00 am* awake overnight.

    Responsibilities

    • The Community Specialized Support Worker is responsible for implementing the day-to-day operations of the home.
    • They provide and maintain a safe, supportive environment that is culturally open, inclusive, and accessible to the personal development of resident youth.
    • The Community Specialized Support Worker facilitates all aspects of the resident youth's life, including accompanying them on daily recreational outings, medical appointments, meal preparation, supporting in their bedtime routine and to develop life skills.
    • The Community Specialized Support Worker reports directly to the Residential Coordinator.

    Qualifications

    • Certificate, diploma, degree or attending education in Mental Health and Addictions, Social Work, or a related field
    • Minimum 1 year experience in similar role, and/or a combination of relevant education & experience working with youth that are at-risk or have developmental delays and special needs
    • Able to lift up to 50lbs and physically active and participating in activities such as swimming, hiking, and biking
    • Experience with FASD, aggressive behavior, sexually intrusive individuals, setting boundaries, active listening and empathic communication.
    • Available for 3 shifts a week with one of those shifts being on the weekend.
    • Must have a broad based knowledge of the family and social issues that Aboriginal individuals face today and a good understanding of Aboriginal cultures and traditions
    • Must have previous experience working with young adults with special needs, including experience following and implementing behavior management and crisis intervention plans and using specialized augmentative and visual communication strategies, such as the use of PECS
    • Able to prioritize, manage crisis, work independently and also as part of a team
    • Must have strong written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to compile accurate records and prepare reports
    • Available for continuous training

    The successful candidate must have or ready to acquire:

    • Criminal record clearance
    • Valid BCDL class 5 and suitable driver's abstract
    • Valid first aid and CPR Level C certification
    • FoodSafe certification
    • MANDT Training will be offered in house
    • Other as required

    Competitive compensation starting at $23.11/hr, plus full benefits upon meeting eligibility requirements.
