    Exciting opportunity exists for the right individual to join a progressive non-profit organization as a Recreation Coordinator. The position entails working within Strive North Van Day Program, supporting individuals with Developmental, Concurrent Disorders, FASD, Autism, in a group and one to one capacity. You would share your time between making connections in the community and linking participants to those connections as well as assisting individuals in the community and in the center, to work towards their goals, teaching life skills, community integration and social skills.


    The successful candidate possesses excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, establishes and maintains rapport with clients, families and stakeholders, analyzes and resolves problems, encourages and motivates clients to participate in programs, completes proper documentation of client’s progress, provides personal care on occasion and attend staff meetings.


    The TRC will report to the Community Inclusion Director and will have the ability to consult, collaborate with, and support staff, volunteers and practicum students to assist in Therapeutic Recreation service delivery to ensure that interventions are integrated and coordinated to provide continuity of care.


    • Experience working with and delivering recreation programs to individuals with Developmental Disabilities and Autism
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals, families, the public, staff, and members of the interdisciplinary team
    • Create, implement and deliver new programs
    • Provide functional assessments and consultation to individuals
    • Demonstrated ability to lead and direct recreation team
    • Demonstrated literacy in computer skills
    • Ability to act with integrity and trust, helps to build a healthy team environment, communicates clearly, fosters potential in others, and acts as a positive role model.
    • Demonstrated ability to teach and empower individuals to take responsibility for their own health
    • Skill in the use and maintenance of specialized and adaptive equipment.
    • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate meetings and events
    • Ability to manage and maintain recreation and administrative budgets
    • Ability to market the program and gain referrals


    • Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an approved accredited academic institution and/or Degree in Psychology
    • Two years of recent, related experience preferred
    • Two years managing staff and programs
    • Criminal record clearance
    • TB test
    • Minimum of three (3) references
    • Valid BCDL and Reliable vehicle to use for work purposes


    Additional Requirements:

    • Current First Aid CPR Certificate
    • Valid BC Driver’s License and use of personal vehicle
    • Food Safe Certification an asset
    • MANDT Certification an asset
    • Trained in Rapid Prompting Method (RPM) an asset
    • Ability to interact well with clients and families
    • Experience or knowledge of Indigenous and Aboriginal health an asset


    Shifts are: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9am to 3pm (18 hours per week) to start and possibly adding hours to full time once passes 6 month probation.


    Start Date: Training to start April 1, 2018


    Compensation: starting at $20.05 to $22.79/hr, plus benefits upon meeting eligibility requirements.
