Overview

An exciting opportunity exists to join the team of a progressive large non-profit organization as a 1:1 support worker for a day program that is educational based with some recreation for a non-verbal young man with Autism. Our client loves the outdoors and a variety of activities. The ideal candidate must also enjoy these activities and have experience working with Autism.

 

 If you have the skills necessary to deal with possible challenging behaviours, non -verbal communication and are able to build trust, be a quick thinker, is energetic and able to motivate and mentally stimulate this young man, we want to hear from you!

 

Shifts are: Monday to Friday 9am to 3pm

 

 

Applicants pursuing and education in psychology, early childhood education, school education teacher assistant, speech pathology, occupational therapy and recreational therapy are encouraged to apply.

 

Responsibilities

The successful applicant must have the following skills: 

 

  • Autism Experience
  • Enjoys Physical Activity and the Outdoors
  • Experience with Non Verbal Communication
  • Experience working in a Team Environment with little supervision
  • Experience with providing a variety of activities and the ability to make adjustments based on the needs of the individual
  • Ability to teach and educate on life skills and academics
  • Crisis Management / Challenging Behaviors
  • Some Personal Care
  • Driver's License and clean driver's abstract
  • Reliable Vehicle

Qualifications

Must be able to obtain:

 

  • Criminal records check
  • TB test
  • First Aid and CPR
  • 3 References
  • Food Safe
  • MANDT

 

Compensation: $19.58-$20.62 per hour, plus benefits upon meeting eligibility requirements.
