Overview

Strive Living Society is a non-profit registered charity which designs and delivers, community living services, tailored to each individual we support. Our teams work collaboratively with service recipients, families, and support networks to ensure flexible, responsive, and quality services.

 

 

  • We are currently looking for a Children and Youth Residential Manager to oversee the day-to-day administration and operations of a residence in East Vancouver, ensuring that the health and safety and a high standard of care is provided to service recipients with highly challenging behaviors and/or extremely complex diagnoses.

Responsibilities

Administration

  • Adhere to all Society policies and procedures, health and safety guidelines, and individual protocols and procedures as outlined in an individual’s care plan.
  • Collaborate with service recipients, family members, advocates, stakeholders, professionals, and personnel to ensure individual care plans are developed and implemented in a timely manner.
  • Monitor, authorize and allocate program expenditures within the operating budget. Assist senior management in preparing budgets. Prepare and maintain related documentation including Residential Expense Reports.
  • Participate in weekly meetings and team meetings on a regular basis.

Community Building

  • Liaise with community members, government organizations, families, officials, professionals, and organization staff to promote community involvement in the program.
  • Identify community services and activities, and assist individuals to access them in order to facilitate the achievement of their ISP goals.
  • Act in a professional manner at all times, speak appropriately to stakeholders and community members, and represent the Society in a positive light.

 Direct Support Services

  • Treat individuals with respect and dignity and attend to any need that may arise.
  • Assist service recipients with personal care activities including but not limited to eating, lifts, transfers, hygiene, grooming and toileting.
  • Support individuals to participate in various activities in accordance with care plans and schedules.  Provide life skills training and/or assistance with daily tasks including, assisting individuals to make and attend appointments, personal finances, shopping, leisure, and housekeeping activities.
  • Provide emotional support and feedback to individuals in care and their families.
  • Administer medication to service recipients in accordance with established guidelines, procedures and instructions. 
  • Ensure the general health and safety of service recipients by staying updated on the status of persons receiving service, communicating with personnel members during shift and at shift change.
  • Responds to emergencies in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and/or review incident reports and follow-up reports. Liaise with professionals to problem solve and implement changes to ensure individual and personnel health and safety.

 

Personnel Management

                    

  • Provide leadership, guidance, training and supervision to residential personnel team.
  • Actively participate in the recruitment, discipline, and dismissal of program personnel.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels in the program. Schedule personnel as per policy, complete and submit payroll bi-weekly.
  • Conduct annual personnel performance evaluations, facilitate personnel conflict resolution

Qualifications

  • Degree in social sciences, psychology, or social work.
  • Three (3) years management experience in residential or related setting and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Available to work 35 hours a week and be on call in case of emergencies
  • Awareness of and respect for the human rights of persons-in-care.
  • Knowledge of labour laws and collective agreement.
  • Interpersonal, leadership and team building skills
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, self-motivated and able to follow directions.
  • Organization and time management abilities. Meet deadlines and prioritize workload.
  • Great Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to act in accordance with established policies and procedures in the event of emergencies.
  • Familiarity with computers and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of populations with disabilities, injuries, and/or complex health care needs.
  • Competency with challenging behaviours.
  • The ability to accept change and adapt to a variety of assignments.

Additional Requirements

  • Emergency First Aid.
  • CPR Level C.
  • Mandt Certification.
  • FoodSafe Level 1.
  • Criminal Record Clearance.
  • Prior Contact Check.
  • TB Clearance.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Drivers License with eligibility to acquire an unrestricted Class Driver's Abstract clear of related violations within the last five (5) years.
  • Reliable personal vehicle for work purposes with adequate insurance.
