Overview

Exciting opportunity exists for the right individual to join a progressive non-profit organization as a Recreation Coordinator. The position entails working in an Assisted Living setting for individuals with physical disabilities and acquired brain injuries with some minor health issues, in Surrey and Burnaby. The successful candidate would be overseeing the recreation programming at two of our Assisted Living locations. This position would entail of programing recreation activities, supervising volunteers/practicum students, connecting tenants to the community, goal setting and promoting the program to clients and/or community. 

Shifts are casual with opportunities to grow within.

 

Responsibilities

*Providing care, support, and assistance to individuals with physical disabilities

*Completing daily documentation

*Accompanying/transporting individuals to activities in the community

*Working as a team

*Plan and implement activities and special events for the recreation / leisure program

*Develop and plan daily and monthly programs and activities to meet the needs/interests of residents

*Produce a calendar of activities and events and post in the common area for tenants to view

*Facilitate, supervise, and carry-out recreation and leisure programs and activities

*Organize parties, day trips, and special events based on tenant feedback

Qualifications

-Bachelor’s Degree or working on Therapeutic Recreation from an approved accredited academic institution and/or Degree in Recreation and Leisure with a major in Therapeutic Recreation

 -Current CPR C and First Aid

-Class 5 BC driver’s license preferred
-Minimum of 1 year experience

-Current Criminal Record Check

-Current TB test

Assets Include:

 

-Knowledge of augmentative communication

-Non-Violent Crisis Prevention and Intervention certification/Mandt Training

-Behaviour Management training

-Knowledge of community resources

 

Compensation: $19.77 – 22.48/hour, plus benefits upon meeting eligibility requirements.
